THE HUMPBACK WHALE
The Humpback Whale has a distinctive body shape, with long pectoral fins and a 'knobbly' head.
Adults range in length 12-16m and weigh 25-30 metric tons.
This is a species of 'baleen' whale.
This whale can live 45-50 years. The female has a gestation period of 11 months.
These are called Humpback Whales because of the habit of raising and bending the back in preparation for a dive, accentuating the hump in front of the dorsal fin.
These whales are found in the north Pacific.
They can dive to about 200m and can stay underwater for 30 minutes.
The Humpback Whales is known for its 'magical' song, which can travel for great distances.
These baleen whales feed on tiny krill, plankton and small fish.
