THE SHIRE HORSE
The Shire Horse is a British draught horse.

#   It is believed to have descended from "The Great War Horse", which was a popular war mount from the Middle Ages.
#   The Shire horse is a willing and kind riding mount.
#   This breed is usually 17-17.3 hands. The tallest horse is a Shire called Duke who stands at 19.3 hands. The largest Shire was born in 1848, was called Mammoth and was 21.2 hands.
#   This breed was bred for a couple of hundred years to pull heavy loads, and it is a 'gentle giant', calm, friendly, with an even temperament.
#   The Shire Horse is intelligent, steady, sensitive and eager to please.
#   Some small farms have gone back to horse power, as horses are more environmentally sustainable.

#   This breed is smart and gentle and best suited to people with experience with horses. It is also versatile and willing to be trained.

#   The Fresian is also known as the "Belgian Black."

The Clydesdale

THE CLYDESDALE
The Clydesdale is a Scottish breed of draught horse.

#   This breed was originally used for agriculture, hauling coal on Lanarkshire and heavy hauling in Glasgow.
#   The Clydesdale is a spirited and intelligent horse. It can be tender and gentle-hearted.
#   These horses are good riding horses, and have been ridden throughout history.
#   The Clydesdale can reach up to speeds of 20mph.
#   Adult Clydesdales are 6 feet tall at the shoulder and (usually) weigh 1,600-2,200 pounds and live up 20-25 years of age.
#   A Clydesdale measures 17-19 hands (1.7-1.9m / 5.7-6.3ft).
#   This breed has a straight nose, big ears and small-arched long neck. It's well defined withers and short back makes it a powerful workhorse.

THE APPALOOSA
The Appaloosa is an American horse breed best known for its colourful spotted coat pattern.

#   This breed is independent, intelligent and courageous.
#   The Appaloosa Horse stands 14-16 hands (56-64in / 142-163cm).
#   Today, the Appaloosa Horse is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. It was named the official state horse of Idaho in 1975.
#   This horse can weigh from 950-1,250 pounds (430-570kg).
#   The coat colour of an Appaloosa Horse is a combination of a base colour with an overlaid spotting pattern. The base colours are bay, black, chestnut, palomino, roan, gray and dun.
#   From 1938-2007 more than 670,000 Appaloosas were registered.
#   This breed is considered one of the best riding horses.

#   Thoroughbreds are a 'Specific' breed.
#   Grade Thoroughbreds may be used as hunters, polo ponies, stock horses or riding horses, depending on their training.
