THE SPECTACLED BEAR
The Spectacled Bear is 'vulnerable' as the population is decreasing.
This bear is 5-6 feet in size, weighs 220-340 pounds and can live up to 25 years.
These bears make its home in the dense in the dense Andean jungles of South America and its the continent's only bear.
These bears are intensely shy, preferring the lush, isolated cloud forests on the slopes of the Andes, climbing as high as 14,000 feet.
They are nocturnal bears and primarily vegetarian, harvesting fruit, berries, cacti and honey. They have extremely strong jaws and wide, flat molars to chew tough vegetation (such as tree bark and orchid bulbs). They will supplement their diet with meat, such as small rodents, birds, insects and even small cows.
